Person injured in carjacking

ESCANABA — One person was injured in a carjacking incident Tuesday, the Escanaba Department of Public Safety reports.

At 1:25 p.m. Tuesday Escanaba Public Safety officers were issued a “be on the lookout” for a vehicle that left the scene of an accident after striking a power pole on South Seventh Street near Fifth Ave. While officers were en route to the scene, they learned that the vehicle was stolen from a nearby area and was no located in Ludington Park.

Officers closed off the park and located the vehicle and then conducted a search of Aronson Island and located the subject near a beach house. The 18 year-old male subject was then taken into custody and lodged at the Delta County Jail pending arraignment.

Officers learned that the owner of the vehicle had sustained injuries during the carjacking.

Escanaba Public Safety was assisted on the scene by Delta County Central Dispatch, the Michigan State Police and the Department of Natural Resources.
