Dump truck driver dies in crash

MARINETTE, Wis. — A 59-year-old man from Suamico, Wisconsin, died in a Friday crash on U.S. 141 in Beaver, Wisconsin, the Marinette County Sheriff’s Office reported.

Sheriff Jerry Sauve said that at about 9:50 p.m. Friday, county dispatch received calls on a crash on U.S. 141 about half a mile south of County P involving a tractor towing an implement and a dump truck towing a loader.

Emergency responders were dispatched to the scene. The initial investigation revealed that the dump truck was northbound and struck the northbound tractor towing a grain drill from behind. The dump truck started on fire, and the driver of the dump truck perished in the burning wreckage.

The driver, who was alone, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Marinette medical examiner. He was identified as Randy S. Gawryleski, 59, of Suamico. The operator of the tractor and his juvenile male passenger were not injured.

Northbound traffic on U.S. 141 was detoured for several hours during the investigation and clean-up. The sheriff’s office was assisted by the Wisconsin State Patrol; Crivitz and Coleman Police; fire departments from Pound, Grover/Porterfield, Brazeau and Crivitz; the Marinette County Highway Department; and the medical examiner.

The crash remains under investigation by the sheriff’s officer and medical examiner. The accident marked the third traffic fatality in Marinette County this year.
