60 years ago MARQUETTE – An escape try by a federal prisoner being held in the Marquette County Jail was discovered Saturday, Sheriff Adrian A Pequet reported this morning. Officers making a routine check found that Roy Waldo, Reed City, one of three federal prisoners awaiting trial in U.S. District Court here next month on charges of bank robbery, had cut a hole in the ceiling of his cell, using a piece of steel he had concealed in the sole of his shoe. MARQUETTE — Motorists traveling through Marquette Saturday morning should be alert for temporary road closures and detours as the Marji Gesick 50-mile mountain bike race gets underway.
