30 years ago SKANDIA — A class project in Skandia has turned into a yearly tradition known as the “Skandia School 5th Grade Free Press.” This student run press contains everything from interviewing and writing stories, selling and designing advertisements to local businesses, and payroll accounting that includes standard tax deductions. Carol Lamirand, teacher of the fifth grade class, began using newspapers in the classroom around three years ago as a tool to combat illiteracy.
