30 years ago AU TRAIN - The Paulson House Museum is hosting a Smithsonian institution poster exhibit entitled “Diversity Endangered” through August 4. The exhibit will be complemented by the work of local artists Maria Lenon, a nature photographer from Gulliver, and Carol Ruth Armstrong, a professional quilter from Shingleton. Mounted fish caught by Ron Avery of AuTrain will also be on display. 30 years ago MARQUETTE – The Marquette school board on Monday approved several school meal price increases and appointed Daniel Gannon as assistant principal and teacher at Graveraet Middle School. Now the assistant principal of Father Marquette Middle School, Gannon replaces Barbara Ojibway, who is now principal of Parkview Elementary School. Ojibway replaced Parkview principal John Arenz, who retired in June after 39 years as an educator in the district. Elementary school lunch prices increased to $1.10 from $1. 30 years ago MARQUETTE - Anglers who have a difficult time reaching good fishing holes are getting some help from a diverse group of local organizations and institutions. Marquette General Hospital, Marquette Board of Light and Power, the Kiwanis Club of Marquette, MFC-First National Bank and Easter Seals of Michigan have teamed up with the Central Upper Peninsula Sportfishing Association to build a barrier-free fishing platform on a popular fishing stream. 30 years ago July 19, 1995 – MARQUETTE – Pesola Contracting, a Marquette development company, has secured an option to purchase the Heritage House on North Front Street, and is working with an architect to review the feasibility of renovation, a company spokesman said Monday. The six-story building, originally named the Northland Hotel, was built in 1930. 30 years ago MARQUETTE – Marquette General Hospital is continuing efforts to become more environmentally friendly with a corrugated cardboard recycling program that began in May. “As a major employer in the area, we are taking a larger role in the recycling effort. This is just one option we have, said Administrative Assistant Timothy Carlson. The program was developed after Carlson read an article in the Wall Street Journal about selling corrugated cardboard on the open market. 30 years ago July 16, 1995 – MARQUETTE – Two local bicycle motocross racers burned past the competition here Saturday to qualify for the American Bicycle Association (ABA) Gold Cup Finals in Kansas City, Mo. Marla Brady and Dan Dehlin made the finals off their performances in the ABA’s Central Division Gold Cup Qualifier at the North State BMX, Inc. track.Brady raced to a first place finish in 14 Girls action, while Dehlin qualified by winning the 14 Cruiser class.
