Superiorland Yesterdays

MARQUETTE — The Marquette County Transit Authority will begin summer beach service on Saturday. Included in the routes will be a Marquette-Chocolay Township route for Marquette area beaches, an Ishpeming route for trips to Van Riper State Park Beach, and a Forsyth Township route for runs to the Gwinn Tourist Park. The Marquette-Chocolay route will include stops at South Marquette Beach, Mattson Lower Harbor Park, McCarty’s Cove, Presque Isle Pool, and the Marquette Tourist Park. This route will be run on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. The Ishpeming route will be offered Wednesdays and Saturdays and the Forsyth Township bus will run on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. The fare will be 50 cents. Beach bus routes connect with existing Marq-Tran routes and transfers are free. Children under 12 years old must be accompanied by an adult. K.I. SAYWER — For her outstanding performance of office duties at K.I. Sawyer Air Force Base, Melanie E. Wilson, W. Ohio St., has been awarded a Sustained Superior Performance Award and a check for $100. Wilson, who is employed as an accounting technician in the financial services office, was given the award for outstanding job performance from October 1957 until April 1959. Lt. Col. Edward J. Sass Jr., executive officer, made the award. Wilson has been employed at Sawyer since April 1956.
