NEGAUNEE – Negaunee Centennial patrons were treated to some old-fashioned, hard-hitting softball in an exhibition tournament for the Centennial plaque. Uno Kivela came out of retirement to spin a three-hitter against Local 4950 in the first game, then Tony Miljour came through in the title game against the Ishpeming ace, Werner Maki, striking out 12 Tracy batters in a 4-2 win. Township could get to Ron Maki for only five hits in the first game but that was all they needed to win the game 6-3. Leo Prusi’s double led to the first run for Township, a single by Tony Miljour, a walk and an error made it 2-0 in the second. Local 4950 took a 3-2 lead in the third on a pair of Township errors, a double by Johnson and a single by Zeke Ranta. A four-run fourth was too much for the union gang. Three walks, singles by Ron Wiig and Miljour, plus a double by Rich Mattson paved the way for the semifinal win. Miljour was in top form in the championship game as he held Tracey Local to two hits, one a long home run blast by Neil Connors which cleared the right-field fence. An error and a triple by Chuck Collins produced two more runs for Township in the fourth and a single for Miljour in the fifth, produced the final run for the winners.

Starting at $3.23/week.
