ISHPEMING — Eight children were awarded prizes for the pictures they colored in the Easter coloring contest at the Ishpeming Burger King. A total of 140 entries were received for the contest. Winners were Ryan Pelkola, 11; Nicole Nicholas, 8; Jeremy Lindsay, 9; Melinda Shirk, 10; James Tasson, 6; Adrienne Takkunen, 7; Carl Carlson, 4; and Laura Frederickson, 3. Winners received prizes donated by Symons True Value, Pamida, Merrico Department Store and Burger King, all of Ishpeming.

60 years ago

ISHPEMING — Dr. M.S. Eldred has announced he will not seek reelection to the Ishpeming Board of Education when his term expires in June. Dr. Eldred has served on the board since July 1945, and had expressed the feeling that he would retire when the new schools were completed. During his long service he held every office on the board and contributed generously of his time and efforts. The Ishpeming schools have been an important part of Dr. Eldred’s life. He graduated from Ishpeming High School, where he participated in many activities, particularly sports, and he has always been an ardent fan and booster for Ishpeming teams. Mrs. Eldred and the couple’s two children are graduates of Ishpeming High School.
