MARQUETTE — The president of Rotary International will be in town Monday to visit Upper Michigan Rotarians. Hugh Archer of Dearborn plans to address the Marquette and other area Rotary Clubs during an intercity Rotary meeting at noon Monday, and accept a special presentation from Marquette Mayor Michael Coyne and Northern Michigan University President James Appleberry.

Archer is chairman of the board of Spiratex Co., a plastics extrusion firm, and director of Syncro Corp., maker of electro-mechanical devices.

He and his wife, Mary Jane, will be hosted in Marquette by Marquette Rotary President Pryse Duerfeldt and President-Elect Bill Hetrick.

60 years ago

MARQUETTE — Clifford Carlson has been elected president of the Marquette Branch of the National Association of Letter Carriers, succeeding George Briggs.

Other officers for 1960 of the mailmen’s organization are James Bernard, vice president, replacing Fred LaCombe, and William DeRocher, secretary-treasurer, succeeding William Anderson.

Re-appointed to the executive board and grievance committee of the organization were Edward Robinson and Gilmore Flesch. Steve Johnson, retired Marquette mailman, is field representative for the Upper Michigan Assn. of Letter Carriers.
