MARQUETTE — Northern Michigan University’s Forest Roberts Theatre has named Christopher M. Jannot and Raymond P. Mannila outstanding graduating seniors for their academic excellence and contributions to the theater program. Mannila, son of Virginia Mannila, Ishpeming, has been active in all aspects of theater at NMU, including acting in 18 plays. He has held a NMU Development Fund Drama Talent Scholarship, read for the Nationwide Playwriting Award Competition, and twice received the Academic Achievement Award from the theater’s First Nighter’s Club. He was chosen by NMU as the Outstanding Male Senior for 1989. Jannot, son of Kenneth and Maureen Jannot of Southfield, has acted in several plays, served as a playreader for the nationwide play-writing award competition and received the First Nighter’s Award for Outstanding Achievement by a Sophomore. This year’s Forest Roberts Theatre box office manager, Jannot held a Development Fund Drama Talent Scholarship for four years. He also directed several productions. He plans to begin work on his master’s degree in theater management. Both received $200 checks and their names were engraved on a plaque displayed in the Forest Roberts Theatre.

CHAMPION — The house committee of the Wawonowin Golf Club has arranged a number of social events for the season of 1929 and arrangements are already being made for the first of the series, which will be held on June 6, when there will be a dinner at 6:30 p.m. Commencing the first Tuesday in June there will be a ladies day every Tuesday. A luncheon will be served at 12:30 p.m., and following the luncheons golf tournaments will be held.
