ISHPEMING — Ruth Achatz became one of a small number of female Licensed Master Plumbers in Michigan when the state approved her application late last month. Achatz, the daughter of Master Plumber Fred Achatz, owner of Achatz Plumbery Home Center, 306 W. Division St., has been involved in the family plumbing business most of her life and has worked there full time for eight years. Her two brothers also hold Master Plumber licenses. “She has the experience, talent, and brains. I knew she could do it,” Fred said. Despite the small number of females who have earned the license, he said, “Ruth never lets those kinds of obstacles stand in her way.”
