MARQUETTE — Jeremy Zimmerman of Gwinn High School has been named one of five outstanding Upper Peninsula chemistry students by the U.P. Section of the American Chemical Society at Northern Michigan University. Zimmerman was among 60 U.P. students who took part in regional American Chemical Society competition last month. He and the other finalists took the national examination Saturday at NMU. Twenty national finalists will attend an all-expenses paid study camp in Colorado to prepare for international competition in July in East Germany.

MARQUETTE — When you’re making plans for the next week will you jot down in the leather-bound engagement book that St. Luke’s hospital will keep open house to celebrate May 12 which is also Mother’s Day. All the departments of the institution will be functioning as they would during the week, and visitors are invited to inspect the plant. Undoubtedly you have noticed some of the posters and groups, in stores about town, announcing the observance. It is hoped that all of St. Luke’s friends will be present and that those who have not as yet been in the hospital will take this opportunity to visit. A variety of souvenirs will be distributed and each baby, who has the right to such an insignia, will wear a button with the words “I was born in St. Luke’s.” Complete plans will be announced later, but save that day for attending open house.
