30 years ago MARQUETTE — The official count of people preregistered for FinnFest USA ’96 has now passed the 4,000 mark. The benchmark comes just one month after the count had’ passed 3,000 —and still two months before the national ethnic festival set to take place in Marquette, from Aug. 7 to 11. IHS Class of ’56 to meet

ISHPEMING — The Ishpeming High School Class of 1956 will meet on Monday, June 15, at noon at the pavilion area of the Al Quaal Recreation Area for their monthly lunch. Classmates are reminded of the 70th reunion lunch on Friday, July 3, any time after noon at the River Rock Banquet Center. Spouses, friends, and relatives are invited to join us at both of these get-togethers. There are also plans to have a class float in the Ishpeming Independence Day Parade on July 4.

Marquette County Road 492 closed

GREENWOOD — The Marquette County Road Commission has closed County Road 482 (Greenwood Mine Road) in Tilden Township, approximately 1.6 miles west of County Road 581, due to a culvert failure. The failed culvert is scheduled for replacement, with work expected to be completed by Sept. 1. County Road 482 will remain closed at this location until the project is finished. No through traffic will be permitted on County Road 482 between County Road 478 and County Road 581 during the closure.

Fox Marquette Ford hosts “Drive for Your Community”

MARQUETTE — Fox Marquette Ford is inviting community members to get behind the wheel for a good cause during its upcoming Drive for Your Community event from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. today. The event will take place at Fox Marquette Ford, 3815 US 41, Marquette, and will benefit Marquette County Habitat for Humanity. For every valid test drive taken, Ford will donate $30, up to a total of $6,000, to support the organization’s work in Marquette County.
