Crash victim’s identity released

SKANDIA — The Marquette County Sheriff's Office has released additional information relative to the motorcycle-pick-up truck crash that took place Sunday afternoon in Skandia Township. Pronounced dead at the scene was the adult female passenger on the motorcycle, Lisa Smale, 59 of Christmas. Sheriff's deputies, in a press release, said they had become aware of that there may have been additional witnesses to this crash, which took place at about 1:40 p.m. Sunday the intersection of US 41 and Carlshend Road. Officers ask the public to report any such information to 906-225-8435.

Maritime museum offering free museum day

MARQUETTE — The Marquette Maritime Museum is celebrating the 250th anniversary of the US by offering a free museum day for Marquette County locals (show proof at ticket counter). Experience its new museum kiosks purchased with AMERICA250 MI grant funds. The museum is open 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Lighthouse tours are not included in free day.

Whitmer releases statement on gas pump savings

MARQUETTE — Gov. Gretchen Whitmer has released the following statement on the Michigan legislature’s extension of Executive Order 2026-4, which provides Michiganders relief at the gas pump by allowing gas stations to continue to sell lower-cost gasoline through the remainder of the summer.  “Michiganders have been grappling with high gas prices driven by the war in Iran. Mahoney to release new album

MARQUETTE — Marquette native Dan Mahoney, who has been performing under the name "Jimmy Mundane" for over 20 years, will be releasing a new collection of songs:"Generation Jones" on July 11. This is his 11th full album release, beginning with the "No Pose" album in 1994. "No Pose" was the first album released in CD format by a Marquette area native. A former board of directors member of Hiawatha Music Coop, Mahoney played in bands throughout the region until he moved into an education career in 2006. MARQUETTE — Wintergreen Hill will be holding a reception from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, July 21 for its July featured artist: painter Todd Carter. Carter’s paintings, prints and photographs are now on display at the gallery located at 810 N. Third St., Marquette. The reception is free to enter and open to artists and patrons alike. Snacks, art and the artist will be there all night.
