MUNISING – The Easter Bunny heard about the long winter in the areas, so he decided to come to Munising a little early this year. The bunny had so much fun the past few years in Munising that he has decided to drop by again for breakfast with the kids and help send away the winter blahs. The Munising Memorial Hospital Auxiliary will again host the Easter Bunny for his visit. He will arrive at Sydney’s Restaurant on Saturday March 16, at 9 a.m. and stay until noon. Children and adults will be treated to a breakfast buffet and they can even have their picture taken with the Eater Bunny. Tickets are available at MFC First National Bank in Chatham, Munising News, Munising Flower Shop, the MMH Admissions Office and from auxiliary members. Tickets will also be available at the door.

MARQUETTE – Heavy snow, which had been considered possible in Marquette yesterday, did not materialize. Instead, the sun shone, and temperatures rose to their highest point this month. The mercury reached 42 degrees, warmest reading since the maximum of 46 posted Feb. 28. Balanced by a low of 28, the day had a mean reading of 35, which was 12 above normal. The first four days this month all have been sharply above normal, in terms of temperatures. Precipitation in the city yesterday totaled .57 of an inch and was mostly in the form of rain. Only three tenths of an inch of snow was recorded here, Meteorologist Emil Ellingson reported. March’s snowfall stood at six-tenths of an inch this morning, compared with the two and a half inched total that is normal for this date. So far this season, Marquette has received only 54.5 inches of snow, while 80.1 is normal. Ellingson commented that the low pressure area which was expected to bring possibly heavy accumulations of snow to this area was over Iowa today and, although it was moving eastward, it was weakening. Only flurries are now predicted here. Overnight, temperatures in Marquette dropped to 26 at 4:30 a.m. Other lows around the region included 30 at Sault Ste. Marie, 25 at Escanaba, 20 at Calumet, and 19 at the Marquette County Airport. The weather here this weekend is expected to be cloudy and colder with snow flurries. Highs of 28 – 33 were predicted today, lows of 15-20 tonight.
