ESCANABA, MI — The Dumas, Luquette & Knapp Trio will take the stage at 7 p.m. April 13 at the Besse Theater at Bay College for an intimate evening of traditional and contemporary bluegrass featuring three of the genre’s most respected musicians.
Blending decades of experience with technical brilliance and heartfelt storytelling, the Dumas, Luquette & Knapp Trio offers a rare opportunity to hear bluegrass performed at the highest level–up close and personal.
Nick Dumas leads the trio on mandolin and vocals, grounding the group with a soulful style shaped by early lessons from his dobro-playing grandfather in Washington state.
Now based in Wisconsin, Dumas is a former member of the Grammy-nominated Special Consensus and a three-time IBMA award winner. He has performed internationally and recently released his solo album Details on Nashville’s Skyline Records. Two new singles from his upcoming project have both reached #1 on the bluegrass airplay charts. In addition to touring with the trio and his band Nick Dumas & Branchline, Dumas teaches mandolin lessons and co-founded the acclaimed Northwest bands Northern Departure and North Country Bluegrass.
Chris Luquette brings virtuosic guitar work and vocals, drawing from his 11-year tenure with the celebrated Frank Solivan & Dirty Kitchen. A multi-instrumentalist with multiple IBMA awards and a Grammy nomination, Luquette has shared the stage with artists such as Jerry Douglas, Emmylou Harris and The Steep Canyon Rangers. Originally from Seattle and now based in New York City, his musical voice spans traditional bluegrass to global influences. Luquette is also a co-founder of Northern Departure alongside Dumas.
Andrew Knapp anchors the trio with exceptional bass playing and rich vocals. One of the premier bassists to emerge from the Pacific Northwest, Knapp performs with Seattle-based The Warren G. Hardings and Nick Dumas & Branchline. A classically trained jazz bassist and graduate of Whitworth University’s Jazz program, he has performed with artists including Kenny Garrett and Terence Blanchard, toured Europe and Brazil and played internationally with Carnival Cruise Lines.
