Barnes-Hecker presentation set
ISHPEMING — The Ishpeming Rock and Mineral Club will meet at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 18, at the Cliff Shaft Mine Museum, 501 W. Euclid St., in Ishpeming.
Local historian and archaeologist Jim Paquette will present the findings of “The Barnes-Hecker Mine: Where miners died and their families cried.” Paquette will focus on Barnes Hecker miners through a photo presentation. This year marks the 100th anniversary of the Barnes-Hecker mining disaster, Michigan’s deadliest mining disaster.
Doors will open at 1 p.m. to allow members and visitors time to bid on silent auction specimens and to view the club’s mineral collection. Paquette will begin his presentation at 1:30 p.m.
A door prize drawing, a 50/50 drawing and a business meeting will follow the program.
Everyone is welcome to attend, enjoy and learn. There is no admission charged.
