Negaunee City Band to celebrate Independence Day

NEGAUNEE — This week’s Negaunee City Band Concert, to be held on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at the Outdoor Performing Arts Center at the east end of Iron Street, celebrates our country, with “America” the theme of every selection to be played. The concert opens with “American Dream Fanfare,” followed by “American Patrol,” which incorporates melodies from “Columbia, the Gem of the Ocean,” “Dixie,” and “Yankee Doodle.”

Other marches are Paul Lavalle’s “Band of America,” Henry Fillmore’s “Americans We,” which he dedicated to “all of us,” and “March America,” which pairs “My Country, ‘Tis of Thee” and “America the Beautiful.”

There will be an “Armed Forces Salute,” which includes “The Caisson Song,” “Semper Paratus,” “The Marines’ Hymn,” “The U.S. Air Force,” and “Anchors Aweigh.” Also on the program is a number titled “American Melodies,” while “American Overture” is a staple in the concert band repertoire which puts every section of the band in the spotlight.

The concert will conclude with audience favorite, “Just a Closer Walk with Thee.”
