NEWBERRY — The Michigan Department of Transportation is investing about $1.7 million to resurface about 7 miles of M-28 from east of M-123 to Borgstrom Road (Luce County Road 393) in Luce County. Work includes surface sealing, crack filling, corrugations, fog seal, aggregate shoulders and pavement markings. This project includes a three-year materials and workmanship pavement warranty.

“Across Michigan, we are moving dirt and fixing the damn roads to grow our economy, helping Michiganders go to work, drop their kids off at school and run errands safely,” said Gov. Gretchen Whitmer. “By the end of this construction season, we will have fixed, repaired or replaced nearly 24,500 lane miles of roads and 1,900 bridges, supporting thousands of good-paying, local jobs without raising taxes by a dime. This year, let’s build on our momentum to pass a bipartisan local road funding plan so we can keep fixing our damn roads and creating good-paying, local jobs.”

The project will start July 7 and is expected to conclude Aug. 29. Motorists should expect intermittent daytime lane closures on M-28 via traffic regulators. One lane of alternating traffic will be open at all times. A 10-foot lane width restriction will be in effect on M-28 during the project with a work zone speed limit of 55 mph (45 mph where workers present).
