ISHPEMING — On May 22, 34-year-old Gerald Burton of Ishpeming was arraigned in the 96th district court on one count of sexual misconduct in the third degree, with bond set at $20,000.

On the same day he was arraigned in the 96th district court for an additional charge of one count of sexual misconduct in the third degree resulting from a separate investigation. The bond for this charge was also set at $20,000.

These charges are in addition to those he was arraigned for in the 96th district court on May 6, 2025, which were also for felony sexual misconduct. These prior charges combined with the new ones bring his total to four separate cases, resulting in charges of seven counts of criminal sexual misconduct of varrying degrees.

These two new charges came to light after two of Burton’s previously unknown victims saw coverage of his initial charges in a Michigan State Police press release and came forward.

“MSP believes there still may be other victims, witnesses, or individuals with additional information,” said a Michigan State Police press release. “Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the MSP Negaunee Post at 906-475-9922.”

Burton’s next court date is scheduled for June 12, 2025.
