MARQUETTE –An area nonprofit organization is asking Marquette County residents to look for donation boxes in order to help a neighbor.

Three area businesses are taking part in the fourth annual Bundle Up Marquette alongside Spread Goodness Day founder Anna Dravland.

In the past, Dravland said thousands of new and gently used winter apparel items have been donated and then given to individuals who need them.

To donate, look for the gold box outside Bennett Media Group on Washington Street in downtown Marquette, Dis ‘n Dat in Gwinn and Jimmy John’s of Marquette. Participants can leave their donations right outside the door of these businesses from now through Oct. 31.

Event organizers are asking people to donate only items that can be used. No dirty, torn or broken items should be donated.

Clothing items the drive is seeking include winter hats, gloves or mittens, warm socks, jackets, boots, snow pants, snow suits and scarves.

The items will then be available from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 4, at the outdoor park area of Sandy Knoll Elementary School in Marquette.

Anyone can come “shop” the donations along the fence and through the park. Take what you need to stay warm.

“The school has been so supportive in allowing us to use their property for this event,” Dravland said. “I believe the people at Sandy Knoll think it’s as important as we do. Winter clothes are a necessity, and we hope this will help people focus on their home heating and electric bills this winter.”

The shopping event will be completely private, no photo or video of “shoppers” will be permitted.

Volunteers from the organization will return to Sandy Knoll to collect any donations that remain and bring them to Goodwill.

Volunteer opportunities are also available for people who can help to put out clothes at the beginning of the day. Dravland said volunteers can meet event organizers at the Sandy Knoll parking lot, which is located along Seventh Street in Marquette.

Organizers for the event want to emphasize that no “shopping” will be permitted prior to the posted 10 a.m. start time on Nov. 4.
