ISHPEMING — Five members of a railroad engineering survey crew were burned, two of them seriously, when a power line carrying 34,000 volts was shorted out, apparently by an aluminum “range rod” shortly before 3 p.m. Friday. All are employees of the Walter H. Knapp of Wisconsin Inc., which is doing the engineering work on a projected railroad bypass around Ishpeming and Negaunee. The accident happened about half a mile west of Euclid Street, about halfway between U.S. 41 and the Carp River. Just how or what happened has not yet been fully determined.
