WAKEFIELD — A male subject fell to his death on Friday near Presque Isle Falls in Gogebic County, the Michigan State Police Wakefield Post reported.

At about 8:30 p.m. CDT Friday, troopers from the MSP Wakefield Post were dispatched to the area of the Presque Isle Campground off Gogebic County Road 519 after a 911 caller said a subject had fallen into the falls.

Troopers arrived in the area and located a male in the water who was unresponsive. The subject later pronounced dead at the scene.

Officers were assisted by U.S. Forest Service officers, the Gogebic County Sheriff’s Office, Gogebic County Search and Rescue, Beacon EMS, Porcupine Mountains Michigan Department of Natural Resources officers, and dispatchers from Iron County Central Dispatch and the Negaunee Regional Communications Center.
