Nomination petitions available

MARQUETTE –The Marquette City Clerk’s office is accepting nominating petitions for the city elective offices to be filled this year which include two vacancies on the Marquette Board of Light and Power and three vacancies on the Marquette City Commission.

Due to the cautionary public health measures implemented by Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, packets containing nominating petition forms, the required certificates and information sheets are not available for pick-up in person. In order to obtain those forms and documents, residents must contact the City Clerk’s office via email at clerk@marquettemi.gov or call 906-225-8667, which residents must state their name, address and contact information so application materials can be mailed to interested parties.

The deadline for filing nominating petitions is 4 p.m. April 21. To be eligible, candidates must have been residents of Marquette for at least one year and may not be in debt to the city. If a sufficient number of candidates file, a primary election for the MBLP and City Commission will be held Aug. 4, where candidates moving on from the primary will advance to the Nov. 3 ballot.
