19 people rescued from cabin
MARQUETTE — Nineteen people were rescued from a cabin in Spalding Township Monday.
First responders were called to a family cabin on North Gaber Road, off M-69, for a report of 19 people isolated in a cabin 6 miles off the highway on an unplowed road with more than 2 feet of snow cover. There were 10 children and nine adults from ages 1 to 64, a press release from the Menominee County Sheriff’s Office states.
Menominee County Road Commission and Harris fire personnel plowed most of the road until two trucks became stuck in the snow. First responders from Meyer, Mellen and Cedarville Township Volunteer Fire Departments used Polaris Ranger tracked vehicles to reach the cabin and rescue the stranded people.
Menominee County Road Commission, Spalding Fire, Harris Fire, Cedarville Fire, Michigan DNR conservation officers and the Menominee County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the rescue.
