MARQUETTE — Community members can take their cars to Superior Express Care & Wash on Saturday for the seventh annual Military Appreciation Car Wash & BBQ.

From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. motorists can stop by the car wash, located at 1201 W. Washington St., Marquette, for a $10 car wash that includes a hot dog, chips and a beverage. All proceeds raised during the event will go to the U.S. Army Reserve 652nd Engineer Company in Harvey and the Michigan National Guard 107th Engineer Battalion in Ishpeming. For every oil change, Superior Express Care & Wash will also donate $10 to the cause.

“It’s just money they didn’t have,” said Anna Dravland, event organizer. “Sometimes it goes to soldiers that are struggling, … sometimes it goes to picnics or Christmas parties. I don’t care what they do with the money as long as it’s used to make them happier or their time is better with their family.”

Funding of holiday events is what inspired Dravland to begin this fundraising event years ago. The event has raised over $6,000 since its start, generally bringing in around $1,000 each year, organizers noted.

Dravland is grateful for Ron Thorley of Superior Express Care & Wash for donating the use of the car wash for an entire day each year.

“It’s been a very simple and beautiful” event with the help of the community, Dravland said.

Dravland is in search of volunteers to help at the car wash. Those interested can visit bit.ly/militarycarwash or contact Dravland at 906-362-1689 or by email at spreadgoodnessday@gmail.com.
