1 seriously injured in Thursday crash
MARQUETTE — A 22-year-old Ohio man was seriously injured as the result of a single vehicle crash in Marquette on Thursday.
The man was a passenger in a vehicle traveling southbound on Third Street, according to a Marquette Police Department press release. The vehicle ran off the end of the roadway at approximately 11:47 p.m., striking a utility pole, fence and trees before coming to rest.
Upon making contact at the scene, MPD officers found the passenger entrapped in the vehicle and impaled on a metal pipe. He was extricated from the vehicle and transported to UPHS-Marquette to undergo treatment for his injuries.
The driver, Dustin Garner, 23, from West Virginia, was arrested and lodged at the Marquette County Jail for operating while intoxicated causing serious injury.
The Marquette Fire Department, Forsyth Township EMS, Michigan State Police, Michigan State Police Traffic Crash Reconstruction Unit and the Marquette Board of Light and Power assisted at the scene.
