ISHPEMING — Gary Rasmussen, an account representative for Metropolitan Life Insurance Company’s Snowfield branch office, at 510 Mather Ave., has received the Metropolitan’s pacesetter award for outstanding service to clients during his first three months with the company. Rasmussen attended Northern Michigan University. He is a registered representative with the National Association of Securities Dealers. A Negaunee resident, he is president and executive director of Northern Nordic Development Inc. He joined Metropolitan in February.

MARQUETTE — Two head nurses with Marquette and L’Anse hospitals were among the 45 hospital employees in Michigan winning prizes and awards for money-saving, time-saving ideas they entered in a second annual state hospital achievement contest. Helene Welsh, operating room supervisor for the Baraga County Memorial Hospital, L’Anse, won a special award of $100 for a “hip-pinning” device, permitting X-rays during surgery. Wilhelmina Hartvigh, head nurse of the pediatrics department at St. Luke’s Hospital in Marquette, won the first honorable mention plaque for the external catheter for male children.
