Driver arrested after rollover crash

MARQUETTE — A driver was arrested for operating under the influence of liquor following a single-vehicle rollover crash that took place at about 12:50 a.m. Saturday on U.S. 41 West at the intersection of Marquette County Road HQ in Marquette Township.

The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office said deputies were dispatched to the crash and, upon arrival, located the sole occupant of the crashed vehicle.

It was determined the accident occurred when the driver struck head-on the temporary traffic barriers put in place by the Michigan Department of Transportation for the current roundabout construction.

The driver was evaluated at the scene by UP Health System-Marquette EMS, but waived further medical attention and reported no injuries.

No names will be released at this time since the incident still is under investigation.

NMU Public Safety and Police Services, the Marquette Township Fire Department and UPHS-Marquette EMS assisted the sheriff’s office.
