Rangers need housing

MUNISING — Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore is requesting assistance from anyone who might have rental space available starting in April or May for seasonal staff who are struggling to find housing for this summer season.

The park hires over 30 seasonal employees each spring to help the lakeshore operate during the busy summer season. The employees all have steady paychecks and successfully completed background checks. They are looking for temporary (four to six months) housing within commuting distance to Munising, preferably furnished apartments or rooms with cooking privileges.

As many businesses and people in Alger County know all too well, rentals are hard to come by, and summer employees have difficulty finding suitable short-term housing. At the park, a higher-than-usual number of non-local employees has placed the park in this difficult situation as well. PRNL has some government-owned housing but not enough to meet its needs.

Anyone who has any available housing or rooms to rent it asked to contact Susan Reece at susan_reece@nps.gov or call 906-387-2607 x1208 with contact information or questions.
