Snyder appoints Marquette natives

LANSING — Gov. Rick Snyder Thursday announced the names of two Marquette men among his recent appointees.

Steven Davis of Marquette and Bob Wilson of Lansing were appointed to the Michigan Trails Advisory Council.

The 11-member board advises the Michigan Department of Natural Resources on the creation, development, operation and maintenance of motorized and non-motorized trails in the state, including, but not limited to, snowmobile, biking, equestrian, hiking, off-road vehicle, and skiing trails.

“I thank these two for their commitment to this council,” Snyder said in a press release. “I’m confident their work will help create and maintain the vast network of trails here in Michigan.”

Davis will serve a four-year term to expire Jan.17, 2021 and Wilson will serve the remainder of a four-year term to expire Jan. 17, 2019.

Snyder also announced Thursday the reappointment of Tony Retaskie of Marquette and five others to the Talent Investment Board.

The Governor’s Talent Investment Board is charged with advising and assisting the Governor regarding compliance with the federal Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act of 2014. The board brings together employers, organized labor and community-based organizations including apprenticeship programs to make recommendations on how to best develop workforce talent across the state.
