Gwinn CSC suspect arraigned; preliminary exam set for Feb. 13

MARQUETTE — Marquon Shavonte Woods, 23, of Gwinn was arrested on four counts of felony criminal sexual conduct on Saturday. Woods was arraigned on Tuesday in the 96th District Court in Marquette.

Woods is charged with criminal sexual conduct, first degree, person under thirteen, defendant seventeen years of age or older, a felony with aamandatory minimum of 25 years in prison. Woods has also been charged with three counts of criminal sexual conduct, second degree, person under 13, a 15-year felony.

A charge of police officer assault, resisting arrest and obstructing justice was added at the arraignment, according to a document from the district court.

A preliminary examination was demanded by the defense at Tuesday’s arraignment.

A probable cause conference is scheduled for Jan. 31. Preliminary examination is scheduled for Feb. 13, according to a document from the 96th District Court. His bond is set at $10,000.

The charges against Woods stem from an assault reported on Jan. 4. The victim and Woods resided in the same household, according to Forsyth Township Police. Interviews and investigations conducted by the Forsyth Township Police in the time since the assault resulted in the authorization of an arrest warrant.

Forsyth Township Police were assisted by the Marquette City Police, DHS Child Protective Service and the Michigan State Police.
