Seney Township investigation concludes

SENEY — Human remains. That’s what police said they were looking for in Seney Township in recent days. Whose remains they’re not saying except to note the remains may have been buried decades ago.

“Earlier in 2025, information had been reported to (Michigan State Police) detectives that possible human remains were buried several decades ago in a location in northern Seney Township. Out of an abundance of caution to follow up on this information, MSP coordinated with additional law enforcement agencies to search an area of remote terrain,” wrote the MSP-Eighth District in its Thursday morning post on X, formerly Twitter. “Despite a thorough search of the location being conducted, no human remains were located. Search efforts have now ended.”

On Wednesday evening, MSP Lt. Ben Eckola, public information officer for the agency’s Eighth District, said “The Michigan State Police is assisting with a multi-agency investigation in the northern part of Seney Township, located in Schoolcraft County. There is no danger to the public.”

The areas where law enforcement had been working (were) temporarily restricted. Those areas will be reopened for public access over the coming days as law enforcement personnel leave.
