ISHPEMING — At 6 p.m. on Saturday, The Burrow 906 in collaboration with Apiary Life Studio, Hope-Dreams Art and Bats Amore 906 will be hosting a movie night benefit to raise money for the Garver family in Ishpeming who lost their home in a house fire last week.

The event will feature a showing of the film “Little Shop of Horrors” (1960) and is pay what you can, with all proceeds going to the family.

“We really wanted to help out the Garver family after hearing about the devastating loss of everything in a house fire,” said Kitty Capelle of The Burrow 906. “They mean so much to Ishpeming as a longstanding small business owner of Native Nails and as community members.

“Hosting a movie night to help won’t begin to give back to them everything they’ve poured into Ishpeming, but we hope to make this difficult time a little easier however we can. Our hearts break for their loss.”

In addition to the movie night, The Burrow 906 will be hosting an open mic night at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, again with all proceeds donated to the Garvers. The event is called “Voices.”

“Voices is an open mic style community forum to tell a story from your life, show off a talent, read or recite something that inspires you,” said Capelle. “Folks can sign up to tell a story of their choosing. It’ll be a really fun night, and we can’t wait to hear what people tell.”

Each participant gets a 15-minute slot, and Capelle asks that participants keep their readings PG, and refrain from political or religious themes. This event will also be pay what you can.

“If someone can’t make either event but still wants to help, First Bank and TruNorth are collecting donations,” said Capelle.

Milano Meats in Ishpeming will also be accepting donations through this week.
