Shed fire quickly extinguished

MARQUETTE — The Marquette Fire Department was dispatched to the 400 Block of West Bluff Street at 8:23 p.m. Wednesday for a reported garage fire.

Upon arrival, MFD officers reported heavy smoke and flames were visible from the backyard area of the residents.

Firefighters deployed a 1 and 3/4-inch handline and advanced it to the rear of the home. The incident commander got a visual on the structure, which was a tool shed approximately 6 by 12 feet. The fire was fully involved.

Dispatch was notified to cancel incoming mutual aid departments. Eight Marquette firefighters from units 2052 and 2054 were able to completely extinguish the fire within 10 minutes.

Firefighters were assisted by Marquette City Police officers and a crew from U.P. Health Services, according to Battalion Chief Kurt Hillier.

There were no injuries. Cause of the fire is undetermined at this time.
