Man charged with throwing Molotov cocktail

MENOMINEE — A Menominee man has been charged with three counts of assault with intent to murder, terrororism and associated felonies after allegedly lobbing a Molotov cocktail at a residence and two individuals, according to Menominee County Prosecuting Attorney Jeffrey T. Rogg.

Frank Samuelle Buelteman, 45, was arraigned Monday in 95th District Court. Bond was set at $250,000.

On Friday, the Menominee Police Department was dispatched to 1236 West Drive after a report of a fire bomb.

Officers determined a Molotov cocktail had been thrown at the residence, while two individuals were sitting on the home’s back porch and another person was inside.

The resulting fire was extinguished with a garden hose by one of the victims.

Surveillance video provided to MPD by a neighbor showed a man throwing a Molotov cocktail at the residence, which landed beside the porch. The neighbor identified the suspect as “Frankie” and officers later ascertained it was Buelteman.

He was quickly located in a shed at 2121 11th Ave. and arrested. Officers observed that Buelteman was wearing the same green pants as in the video.

Additional distinctive items of clothing were found and seized, in addition to a container of gasoline. The Menominee Fire Department assisted MPD at the scene.

“A targeted act of terrorism simply will not be tolerated, and I will aggressively pursue and prosecute those who threaten harm to our community,” Rogg said.

At Buelteman’s arraignment, Judge Robert J. Juno scheduled a probable cause conference for 8:15 a.m. (CDT) July 1, and a preliminary examination at 8:30 a.m. July 22.

The principal offenses Buelteman has been charged with are each punishable by up to life in prison, said the prosecuting attorney.
