MARQUETTE — Sunday night’s three inches of snow may have been an unwelcome return to winter for area residents hoping for spring to come.

After temperatures reaching highs of 40 to 50 degrees in the first two weeks of this month, Saturday ushered in a new cold streak.

Temperatures have been consistently no higher than freezing. Sunday had a low of 7 degrees and a high of 32, according to the National Weather Service office in Negaunee Township.

Snowfall started Sunday night after 5 p.m. and totalled 2.9 inches.

NWS also reported a 90% chance of rain today with a high of 50 degrees. Tonight, there is a 30% chance of rain and snow showers possibly leading to icy road conditions.

Despite this, the NWS’ hazardous weather outlook predicts no hazardous conditions for the greater Marquette area in the next few days.
