MARQUETTE — A three-car crash that landed one vehicle in Lake Superior resulted in injuries but no fatalities, police said.

At approximately 7:30 a.m., Marquette Police Department officers were dispatched to a personal injury crash on U.S. 41 South near the Marquette Branch Prison.

A northbound grey Subaru SUV was struck from the rear by a black Chrysler sedan causing the Subaru to veer off the roadway, down the embankment and into Lake Superior. The driver of the Chrysler then exited his vehicle as a third vehicle, a blue Saturn sedan struck the Chrysler which, in turn, struck the Chrysler’s driver standing nearby.

Officers then assisted the driver of the Subaru to shore. Both drivers of the Subaru and Saturn received minor injuries and declined medical treatment at the scene.

EMS transported the driver of the Chrysler to UPHS–Marquette for treatment of injuries.

The accident was cleared and the Subaru was successfully removed from the lake.

Authorities say the crash is still under investigation.

The Marquette Police Department was assisted by UPHS-Marquette EMS, Marquette County Sheriff’s Office, Chocolay Township Police Department, Michigan Department of Natural Resources Law Enforcement and the Marquette Fire Department.
