Girard announces run for 109th

By Journal Staff

MARQUETTE — Former Marquette Township Manager Randy Girard announced Wednesday that he will be running to unseat Jenn Hill to represent the 109th District in the Michigan House of Representatives.

Girard currently serves as a Marquette County road commissioner and will be running as a Democrat, joining fellow Democrat Margaret Brumm and Republican Burt Mason to challenge the incumbent Hill next November.

“I appreciate the opportunity to address you this evening. We have a long history of working together addressing and successfully meeting our constituent wants and desires in a timely and economical manner; and, developing ordinances to protect and plan for the long-term disposition of property resources within your boundaries,” Girard said. “In light of recent legislative actions detrimental to the people of this township and other local governments of the U.P., I am this evening announcing my intention to run for the 109th House District in the 2024 Democratic primary election.”

In addition to his service as a road commissioner, Girard also serves on the board of directors for the Marquette Community Federal Credit Union, as well as on the board for the Marquette County YMCA.

Girard served for 19 years as the Marquette County human resources director and 19 years as the manager for Marquette Charter Township. Girard was previously elected twice to serve on the Marquette County Board of Commissioners.

He also has 14 years of experience on the Municipal Employees Retirement System of Michigan board of directors.

Brumm and Girard will face off against the incumbent Hill during the Michigan primaries in August for a spot on the general election ballot in November.

Starting at $4.62/week.
