Gwinn man charged with embezzlement

Jonathan A. Barnes

FORSYTH TOWNSHIP — On June 22, Gwinn resident Jonathan A. Barnes was arraigned in the 96th District Court in Marquette on the following charges authorized by the Marquette County Prosecutor’s Office: Embezzlement $20,000 to $50,000, which is a felony.

On June 18, Barnes was taken into custody. The arrest came at the conclusion of an investigation conducted by Forsyth Township Police Department. Police and prosecutors claim Barnes, while employed at Larry’s Family Foods in Gwinn, embezzled several thousands of dollars utilizing a gift card scheme.

The investigation was initiated by Larry’s Family Food administration when they learned of a large discrepancy in gift card sales. That information was then immediately turned over to the Forsyth Township Police Department for further investigation.

Police and prosecutors claim that Barnes, while employed at the business, pre-loaded several thousand dollars in gift cards. Barnes then used those gift cards at various local businesses and online shopping vendors for personal purchases.
