Marquette County elections results tallied
MARQUETTE — Voters on Tuesday voted not to pass the Gwinn Area Community Schools bond proposal to construct additions to Gwinn Middle/High School.
On the ballot, GACS requested to borrow up to $45.55 million through bonds for additions to the Gwinn Middle/High school building, including an elementary school and auxiliary gym.
Election results show that 61% of voters chose not to pass the bond proposal at 1,378 votes with 865 votes for the bond proposal.
GACS Superintendent Dr. Sara Croney said in an email to the Mining Journal that the need hasn’t gone away.
“Our team will be analyzing the results, listening to community feedback and taking into account other needs that have surfaced since the bond was put together,” Croney said.
She said meetings will be held this month to continue planning. The school board will discuss more about the election results and moving forward at the Nov. 20 board meeting.
“We need to continue to build more trust and I feel grateful for the support of staff and the community to not quit,” Croney said.
