Forsyth Police arrest Indiana woman charged with neglectful death of child

HILL

MARQUETTE — The Forsyth Township Police Department has arrested a woman wanted in an Indiana child negligence case resulting in the death of a 20 month old.

The arrest was a result of a traffic stop after Forsyth Township Police received reports of stolen firewood from the Forsyth Township Tourist Park Campground. On Sept. 16, police pulled over a vehicle that matched the one seen in a surveillance video.

Police say the female passenger in the vehicle was identified as Cheyenne Hill of Bedford, Indiana. Hill was found to have an extraditable warrant for her arrest on charges of child neglect resulting in the death of her young daughter.

Hill was then taken to the Marquette County Jail before being extradited to Lawrence County, Indiana.

According to a Lawrence County press release, the investigation into Hill began last November after Hill’s daughter, Elli, was flown by helicopter to a children’s hospital in Indianapolis suffering from several injuries, including a brain bleed, broken collarbone and facial swelling.

Elli was pronounced dead on Nov. 26 and at the time of her death appeared to be malnourished and was approximately 10 pounds below ideal weight.

The Lawrence County Sheriff says that there had also been two anonymous Department of Child Services tips in the days leading to Elli’s death that reported possible drug use and child abuse in the home.

Hill is currently scheduled to face a jury trial in March.
