ISHPEMING — A new campground has opened for nature enthusiasts and adventure seekers alike.

The Lake Superior Community Partnership and the Greater Ishpeming-Negaunee Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon -cutting ceremony that announced the opening of the Brasswire Campground in Ishpeming on Thursday.

“We are pleased to share our passion for the outdoors and invite you to come and experience what makes Ishpeming such a memorable place,” the website for the campground said.

The campground was funded in part through a Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development grant and is approximately 16 acres.

According to LSCP’s press release, Brasswire “integrates with the environment” with 12 acres clear-cut as a remedy for dying jack pine stands.

“This strategic clear-cutting transformed the area into a space best suited for campground development, embracing nature and recreation,” LSCP said in the press release. “With a total of (50) campsites, Brasswire Campground is a testament to responsible land usage and community collaboration.”

Brasswire Campground offers a rustic camping experience without hookups to focus on a more natural setting.

“Additionally, two water wells have been thoughtfully installed for the convenience of registered campers,” LSCP said.

Campers can make immediate bookings for this camping season through the campground’s website. Reservations cost $25 per night.

Campers under the age of 21 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian to be registered for a camping permit.

Check-in hours are 1 to 9 p.m., offering flexibility for travelers arriving at different times.

Check-out is required by 1 p.m. to ensure the efficient preparation of campsites for incoming visitors.

Brasswire Campground is located at 234 Malton Road in Ishpeming.
