Sections of Van Riper State Park, Beaufort Lake State Forest campgrounds temporarily closed

CHAMPION — The rustic campground in Van Riper State Park and Beaufort Lake State Forest campground are closed until May 22 due to damage from the recent snowstorm.
On Facebook, Van Riper State Park said last week’s snowstorm resulted in downed trees, limbs and branches park-wide.
“Snowmelt and recent rain has also flooded out areas,” officials from Van Riper State Park said on Facebook. “All efforts at this time are going into clearing (and) prepping the modern campground at Van Riper, which will open (Monday).”
Anyone with reservations in the rustic campground prior to May 22 will be contacted regarding options, park officials said.
