Woman dies in Marenisco Township crash

MARENISCO — An Illinois woman was killed in a snowmobile crash on Wednesday in Marenisco Township.

The Michigan State Police Wakefield Post said in a news release that at about 5 p.m. CST, troopers responded to a report of a snowmobile crash on Trail No. 1 near the Michigan-Wisconsin border.

It was reported that a lone rider was traveling southbound on the trail when her snowmobile failed to negotiate a turn, left the trail and went over a snowbank, causing the snowmobile to go airborne and strike several trees.

Troopers arrived on the scene and attempted lifesaving measures, but the driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver was 60-year-old Cindy Zinaweah of Antioch, Illinois.

The cause of the crash, which remains under investigation, is unknown at this time.

Assisting the MSP were the Gogebic County Sheriff’s Office, Beacon First Responders and EMS, Negaunee Regional Dispatch and the MSP Chaplain Corps.
