Driver arrested in Ely Township crash

ISHPEMING — A crash in Ely Township on Tuesday resulted in the arrest of one person.

The Marquette County Sheriff’s office said the crash occurred on U.S. 41 near County Road CKM at approximately 7:47 p.m.

A vehicle traveling southbound on County Road CKM entered U.S. 41 in the path of a vehicle traveling westbound on the highway.

Both vehicles sustained disabling damage, the sheriff’s department said.

EMS treated both drivers at the scene of the crash.

Alcohol is believed to be a contributing factor, according to police. One driver was arrested and lodged in the Marquette County Jail for operating while intoxicated. The incident is still under investigation.

The sheriff’s department was assisted on the scene by the Ishpeming Township Fire Department, Michigan State Police from the Negaunee Post, UP Health System EMS and Antilla’s Towing.
