Master gardeners to meet

MARQUETTE — The upcoming Upper Peninsula Master Gardener Association presentation at Peter White Public Library will feature guest speaker Linda Andriacchi.

The event is at 1 p.m. Saturday in the George Shiras Room at PWPL.

Andriacchi, creator of the city of Ishpeming Hanging Baskets, will present “Successful Container Gardening from the Pot Up.” She will talk about the proper soils and fertilizers to use depending on what is being grown. Also, she will suggest what type of container is best suited for certain plants and what plants are good for certain containers.

Andriacchi will have several slides to show and will speak about creating impressive container gardens.

Andriacchi was born and raised in Marquette. She is married with four children and is employed at Andriacchi Law in Ishpeming working as the office manager with her husband and son.

In her 20s, she loved houseplants, and then in her 30s moved that love of houseplants to outdoor gardening. She enjoyed working in the soil, creating gardens that attract wildlife and learning everything possible about plants and gardening.

She began sharing her love of gardening by teaching a Gardening 101 class through Community Schools, sharing what she had learned from all the classes she took.

Her love of horticulture has introduced her to well-known personalities as well as people who have a passion for gardening just like her. Now, she says she is living her dream by opening her Independent Garden Center, The Plant Connection, LLC.

The U.P. Master Gardener Association is affiliated with the Michigan State University Extension Master Gardener Program. For information on becoming an extension master gardener, email Rebecca Krans at kransr@msu.edu.
