GAYLORD — A Gwinn man was arrested downstate on a charge of possession of methamphetamine, the Michigan State Police Gaylord Post reported.
At approximately 1:25 p.m. Thursday, a trooper from the MSP Gaylord Post stopped a 2021 Nissan with an expired Illinois registration on northbound I-75 near mile marker 279 in Bagley Township in Otsego County, police said.
The driver, 51-year-old Jason Angus Carr of Gwinn, did not have a valid driver’s license, according to police. The passenger, a 55-year-old Green Bay, Wisconsin, man, told the trooper the vehicle was rented by his girlfriend, but was unable to provide a rental contract.
The men stated they had driven to Grand Rapids to drop off someone and were on their way back north. An MSP K-9 was called to the scene and hit on the vehicle. Troopers found a small digital scale, straw, glass pipe, butane lighter and a tin containing a white crystalized substance that tested positive for methamphetamine.
Carr was placed under arrest and lodged in the Otsego County Jail. He was arraigned in the 87-A District Court in Otsego County on a count of possession of methamphetamine and was given a $10,000 personal recognizance bond.
His next scheduled court appearance is 1:30 p.m. Thursday.
