MARQUETTE — The city of Negaunee will kick off the Christmas season Saturday with its annual Tinseltown: A Holiday Celebration event.

The holiday celebration is presented by the Negaunee Downtown Development Authority and will have activities for all ages.

The event starts at 4 p.m. and features sleigh rides and cookie decorating for the kids and a wine tasting for the adults at the Negaunee VFW. There will be plenty of live music as well, featuring live performances from the Negaunee City Band, the Lakeview Elementary School fourth-grade chorus, the Negaunee High School Band and the Negaunee Male Chorus. All of the musical performances will be taking place at the Negaunee City Bandshell along Pioneer Street.

Festivities continue at 6 p.m. with the Christmas parade and tree-lighting ceremony. Those participating in the event will be lining up at 5:30 p.m. on Tobin Street. After the parade concludes, Santa will head over to the Elks Lodge for photos. There will also be specials at many local businesses.

The event makes its return after being canceled in 2020 due to COVID-19.

The Negaunee Downtown Development Authority thanked downtown business partners, service clubs, Fox Negaunee and Honor Credit Union for sponsoring the event.

Anyone interested in getting involved with the Christmas parade or being a downtown vendor can call Pete Munson at 906-361-8524.
