Man in court for felony assault charges after ATV dispute
DERRICK CRAM
NEGAUNEE — The man who allegedly fired a long gun during a dispute over an ATV Saturday afternoon in Negaunee Township has been arraigned on felony charges stemming from the incident.
Derrick Cram was arraigned on two counts of assault with a dangerous weapon, felonious assault, in the 96th District Court, according to court records. The arraignment took place Monday and a probable cause conference is scheduled for Dec. 1, court documents show.
The charges stem from an incident that took place along Midway Drive on Saturday. Troopers from the Michigan State Police Negaunee Post had been dispatched to a residence due to a report of a dispute among three men regarding the purchase and ownership of an ATV.
The dispute “centered around the sale of the ATV where a person believed they owned the vehicle and went to remove the vehicle from another person’s property,” police said in a news release. “That person would not allow the ATV to be removed from his property and an altercation took place. A long gun was retrieved by the owner of the residence and a shot was allegedly fired after he made threatening statements.”
Cram allegedly left the scene on a four-wheeler and was eventually located by law enforcement where he was taken into custody, police said. He was lodged at the Marquette County Jail.
Cram faces two counts of felonious assault related to the incident and also had two outstanding warrants, police said previously.
No injuries took place during this incident.
Troopers were assisted by deputies from the Marquette County Sheriff’s Office and officers from the Negaunee Police Department.
Cram remained lodged at the Marquette County Jail as of Thursday, officials said.
